My previous copy had this story, but my seems to have gone ‘walk about’! And though I did not agree with the tactics used in certain draogstei, I read on in fascination of the differing views of reality presented.
Ah, written 25 years after the book was first published. But in this book, he reveals that he has many flaws and more judgments than most people I know. It comprises of ten interesting stories, semi fictionali “Four givens are particularly relevant for psycho-therapy: Without doubt, it is an useful read for both trainees and lay readers alike.
But what to my wondering eyes do appear? Yalom is refreshingly honest about his drabostei thoughts and experiences in therapy, openly admitting to instances where he made wrong decisions and sharing his darker thoughts – thoughts that one would expect highly trained psychologists to be above as they operate in their supernatural realm free of judgement, discrimination and egocentrism.

Yalom Institute of Psychotherapy, co-directed by Prof Ruthellen Josselson, works to advance Yalom’s approach to psychotherapy. So although I consider those reasons to have enjoyed the book less, I certainly cannot fault the book for their existence.
The writing is commendable for being humane, simple, jargonless and economical. Rather, love is a way of being, a “giving to,” not a ‘falling for”; a mode of relating at large, not an act limited to a single person. I used to be so sure. This is a book I selected on my own free will, but it ended up feeling more like a school assignment as I trudged to the ending.
Yalom talks candidly about the various problems that come with certain therapy sessions, and how these can become exacerbated by the biases and weaknesses of the therapists themselves; and unlike what you might expect from a book like this, not all the ten case studies presented here have happy endings, Yalom being quite clear about the various breakdowns on both his and his patients’ parts when one of them ends up leaving therapy without being “cured” however you want to define that.

Refresh and try again.
When going on such a perilous journey into the true heart of darkness it behooves one to have an experienced and trustworthy guide.
